DHS at EWOB! - January 29, 2012

We're thrilled to announce that Diamond Hill Station has been invited to perform at the 2012 European World of Bluegrass Festival in Voorthuizen, Netherlands. The festival runs from May 17-19, and we'll be playing on Saturday. I've heard that we'll be the only American band performing there. We can't wait! Stay tuned for further details.

Work begins on new DHS album! - January 28, 2012

I'm pleased to announce that we've begun working on the new as-yet-untitled DHS studio album. This album will be all original and will feature some great new tunes we've been writing. All four members have contributed, and we think this will be by far our best album yet. We're recording at DHS guitarist Mike White's studio and we're having a ball.

Stay tuned for updates!

New bluegrass album on the way! - June 6, 2011

I'm delighted to announce that my first all-original all-bluegrass album, History In My Hands, will be released on June 14, 2011. History contains my performances on mandolin and guitar, and I'm joined by some of the midwest's finest bluegrass musicians, as well as Portguese banjo whiz Andre Dal. The album features nine self-written songs and one instrumental; a second instrumental was written by banjoist Bob Perlstein, and it is my attempt to put a new spin on traditional bluegrass by writing new material which fits well alongside old classics. History's first single is "We Can Just Pretend," a driving bluegrass number featuring Andre on the banjo. You can hear a sample on the Music section of this site.

Check back shortly for pre-order information, which will be up later this week!

New single is out! - May 29, 2011

"We Can Just Pretend," my new single, is here! The track features some of my great bluegrass buddies, including Andre Dal on banjo, Greg Moore on fiddle, Lonnie Meeker on tenor vocals and Angus Cohen on bass. Look for it to (hopefully) appear on a radio station near you! "We Can Just Pretend" is the leadoff track from my all-bluegrass all-original album, "History in My Hands," which will be released on about June 15. Cheers!

Dave's book is out! - March 22, 2010

In addition to being a performer and recording artist, I'm pleased to announce my debut as...an author!

A Year in Mudville: An Oral History of Casey Stengel and the Original Mets is the first comprehensive work devoted to the 1962 New York Mets, the worst baseball team of the twentieth century. The Original Mets, while unquestionably bad, remain one of the most beloved teams of any era, and this book tells the Mets' unbelievable story through the words of participants and witnesses.

The Original Mets finished 40-120, sixty and a half games out of first place. They lost games in ways never seen before or since, winning the hearts of fans all the while. How many other teams traded a player for himself, never won on a Thursday, had two pitchers with the same first and last name and assign them to be roommates, or hosted an Old-Timers game in their first season? The Original Mets did all of these. The names of Marvelous Marv Throneberry, Hot Rod Kanehl, Choo Choo Coleman and the immortal manager Casey Stengel are well known to baseball fans of all ages. A Year in Mudville will help the reader understand why.

Currently available only as an e-book, A Year in Mudville can be purchased in numerous formats and can be read on the Kindle, the Sony Reader and the Stanza, as well as on any computer. For more info, or to purchase this book for only $9.99, go to www.smashwords.com/books/view/11400

New Endorsement! - February 17, 2010

I'm very happy to announce that I will be endorsing J Bovier mandolins! I picked up my J Bovier F5Z "Blackface" mandolin at SPBGMA last weekend, and I just love it! It has a beautiful black finish and zebrawood on the back and sides...really just lovely, and it sounds AMAZING. Jeff Cowherd of J Bovier is doing some really great work...check him out at www.jbovier.net. And lest you think this is one of those smarmy endorsements which are paid for with free stuff, fear not -- I had to pay for the mandolin! Check out the pics in my photo gallery. If you want more info, or you want to see it at a gig near you, write me.
